The main purpose of this site is to create a platform to support those who are preparing for their RACGP exams particularly the OSCE RACGP exams. In addition, we are here to promote Mental Health awareness and training, better self care for Doctors, and a biopsychosocial model of health for patients. We are independent of the RACGP.

Receptive empathy vs expressive empathy
It’s important to differentiate “receptive/perceiving empathy” vs “expressing/urge to act” type empathy.
One is simply “holding space and observe” type of empathy that informs us but are less likely to tire/drain us out. It gives us information. It’s “receptive/perceiving” in nature.
One will cause an “urge to act” type empathy. It motivates us to act. It’s “expressive” in nature. One can observe the action that stems from those emotions. This one may cause more “empathy/compassion fatigue”.
Mindfulness of emotions can help to switch between the two.
