In counseling, helping our patients identify their values is important. We then help them use these values as their “inner compass” to balance/reconcile the “outer compass/values” of society.
Ask what scenarios make them emotive e.g. love, hate, or fearful? Then reverse engineer these back to their values.
This guides us to the answers because values are what we find valuable, and hence, are often emotive in nature.
