Have you ever had a situation where you have stated something or done something with a particular intent, and someone have completely misunderstood you because they have interpreted it through their own lens, beliefs and experiences?
It happens frequently with the families and couples I see. I am sure you have seen it too.
If we don’t have the emotional literacy to understand and find a way around this, then we are in big trouble aren’t we?
One way is to cultivate the ability to come back, and do a “take 2” with a “repair” in mind if a misunderstanding has occur. This is important because it’s not always possible to stop our feeling mind from reacting, before our thinking or observing mind is aware.
