When we work in palliative care, we see a lot of loss, disbelief, fear, anxiety, anger, frustration, sadness, and confusion. It can be a real uncomfortable “emotional soup”.
If we feel those feelings ourselves, we may not last long in that space.
Learning to hold all those uncomfortable feelings with kindness and compassion is super important, so that when we leave those interactions, we mainly feel kindness and compassion, and less so of the others mentioned.
This will ensure our longevity in this kind of work perhaps.
