The main purpose of this site is to create a platform to support those who are preparing for their RACGP exams particularly the OSCE RACGP exams. In addition, we are here to promote Mental Health awareness and training, better self care for Doctors, and a biopsychosocial model of health for patients. We are independent of the RACGP.

Using metaphors to help our patients understand mental health problems
The use of metaphors is common when using Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT) as a counseling approach or framework. It’s a wonderful way to explain an abstract idea or concept.
I often like to remind patients from time to time that having the ability to fuse and defuse from our thoughts and feelings, is like having a clutch to shift gears for better flexibility and adaptability.
It’s an area in Medicine that Doctors can apply a bit of creativity to their thinking.
Do you have a favorite “metaphorical truths” that you love to use when explaining mental health issues?
