Have you ever had an experience where your mind showed up a scene or narrative of the past along with all the emotions that were attached to it.
It’s like reliving it isn’t it?
The trick is to step back and be “defused/detached” just enough to be the “Director of one’s life story”, and change the scene or the music score/emotions that were attached to that scene.
In a way, counseling is about defusing into the “Director’s mind space” and edit those scenes and/or create a new scene/narrative.
But one cannot do that until one is defused enough to get into the “observing mind” or “Director’s mind space”.
That is often the rate limiting step for most of our patients isn’t it?
