The main purpose of this site is to create a platform to support those who are preparing for their RACGP exams particularly the OSCE RACGP exams. In addition, we are here to promote Mental Health awareness and training, better self care for Doctors, and a biopsychosocial model of health for patients. We are independent of the RACGP.

How to help our patients defuse or reprocess past inaccurate or unhelpful narratives
When something “bad” happened to us in the past, we can only process that and make meaning of that with our level of understanding at the time.
That’s not necessarily a big problem for “that time”.
The real problem is, as humans, we have a tendency to carry that same narrative or explanation into our future, often for years or decades.
So if something bad happened to us when we were 9 or 10, is that narrative or level of emotional processing at that time accurate anymore?
Is it helpful anymore?
Is it adaptable anymore?
Is it relevant anymore?
Learning how to be aware of these, defuse from these, and perhaps “reprocessing” them, are important things to consider aren’t they?
