When working with parents, I often see the struggles that many parents have when transitioning their mindsets, as their children grow and develop.
1. We start off primarily as a “protector” in the first few years of life.
2. Then a “trainer/teacher” during their early childhood with a more “authoritarian” approach perhaps.
3. Then more of a “coach” during the teenage years.
4. Then a “life consultant” as needed in their adult life.
Having said that, I think there’s a lot of overlap.
It’s tough being a parent, because when we feel experienced and confident with one mindset, we then have to shift again. It can lead to a lot of adjustment issues for both parents and child.
I am sure those who are parents will agree, children do grow very very quickly.
